The investigation of platelets in the thrombotic diatheses

چکیده

1. Consideration of the morphology of a thrombus shows the presence of platelets and many confounding factors and processes. 2. This suggests that in vivo a balance is stuck between activation and inactivation. 3. Laboratory evidence of platelet involvement in thrombus will be reviewed. While a short platelet survival is proof of platelet involvement, "damage" can result in "exhausted" platelets which circulated for a normal time. The following tests will be considered; The non-specific heparin thrombin clotting time; serotonin release; malondialdehyde production and platelet factor 4 and (3 thromboglobulin and platelet aggregation. 4. The contribution of the vessel wall will be considered. 5. Successful therapeutic treatment of thrombosis if rightly understood should enlarge our knowledge of the mechanics involved.

O10: Thrombo-Inflammation in Acute Ischemic Stroke

Ischemic stroke has been classified as a merely thrombotic disease, so the main goal of its treatment is the recanalization of the occluded vasculature. However, despite fast restoration of blood circulation, progressive stroke still develops in many patients, which has led to the concept of reperfusion injury.  The underlying mechanism is only partly known. Though, it is accepted now, tha...

Successful treatment of thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura during pregnancy: A case report

A 28 years’ pregnant woman with 24 weeks’ gestational age referred with petechiae and purpura from previous day without any trauma. She had an occipital headache from last night. Overt petechial and purpuric lesions were seen in the mouth and skin. There was neither hepatosplenomegaly nor lymphadenopathy. She was conscious and oriented. The patient was febrile, anemic and thromboc...

A Case Report of Successful Management of Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura Syndrome (TTP) in a Pregnant Woman with Plasmapheresis

Background and Aim: Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura is a rare and life-threatening disease with a relatively high prevalence of 5% in pregnancy that causes thrombocytopenia. Due to the high prevalence and mortality of fetal and maternal mortality, which resolves rapidly with the onset of plasmapheresis, the diagnosis of this disease is clinically important. The aim of this study was to succ...

The source of HLA molecules on platelets: Does platelets adsorb soluble HLA molecules from their environment?

Background: The origin and function of human leukocyte antigen (HLA) class I molecules on platelets are still highly arguable. Given the differences in the results of the previous studies in this regard, the lack of research in recent years, and the clinical importance of HLA class I molecules, the absorption capacity of platelets for soluble HLA class I molecules was studied in this investigat...

INFERIOR VENA CAVA THROMBOSIS IN A PATIENT WITH ESSENTIAL THROMBOCYTHEMIA

Essential thrombocythemia is a chronic myeloproliferative disorder characterized by a sustained proliferation of megakaryocytes, which leads to increased numbers of circulating platelets. Hemorrhagic and/or thrombotic episodes are frequent, and thrombosis of both veins and arteries may develop. Vessels in unusual sites may be involved, e.g., the hepatic veins, mesenteric veins, and the dig...
